-Vision and Challenge in KPCT (Kumamoto Prefectural College of Technology)-

Our KPCT was established in 1997 by the Kumamoto Prefectural Government for the development of industries and activation of societies in Kumamoto area. Kumamoto Prefecture is located in the central area of the Kyushu Island, Japan.

To this end, KPCT is to train practical engineers with both basic skills and advanced engineering knowledge in advanced manufacturing technology in the area of mechanical engineering and computer engineering. Concretely speaking, our college offers five two-year training courses. Two mechanical engineering courses are provided by Precision Mechanical and Mechano-Electronic engineering departments and Three computer engineering courses are provided by Electronics & Computer, Computer Network and Imaging Engineering departments.

The special feature of KPCT's practical engineering education is characterized by two-year intensive study, small size of the class, and hi-leveled teaching staffs with qualified industrial expertise. Actually, our faculty members have various educational and vocational backgrounds and the 70% of tenured members hold the doctoral degree and 6 staffs obtained the title of the Special Engineering Educator from JSEE (Japan Society of Engineering Education). The cutting edge education facilities are maintained by supports of Kumamoto Prefecture and the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. Thus, our graduates are trained to have solid foundation of practical engineering skills and the knowledge for fulfilling technical tasks in industrial fields.

Therefore, technological innovation has emerged as the key to overcome the current obstacles of economical situation. In the United States, the Green New Deal policy has been proposed and launched, which is an ambitious industrial policy to aim at boosting the global industries and the employment while promoting countermeasures against global warming through the environment centered methods of employing the natural solar energy and improving efficiency of electric cars. In this respect, the development of environment related technological innovation should be indispensable as well as the education of practical engineers with innovative mind.

To this end, KPCT makes an effort to attain our mission by educating the young students as practical engineers who would play important roles of bringing the innovation at technology and manufacturing skills into industries in Kumamoto and Japan in near future.
