The Semicon Techno Park is the hub of semiconductor manufacturing in Japan.
There is considerable investment in the area by some of the largest semiconductor
manufactures around the world. Mitsubishi Electric, NEC, Renesas Technology, Sony, Tokyo Electron, Ebara, and other leading Japanese companies have set up operations in Kumamoto Prefecture.
Kumamoto is located in the center of the Silicon Island for its notable concentration of IT companies, and the Kyushu island is responsible for about one-fourth of the nation's IC production and Kumamoto Prefecture shares one-fourth. It is ninety-five minutes away from Tokyo by airplane (1,072km), but is only eighty-five minutes from Seoul in Korea (631km). As the fifteenth largest prefecture in Japan, it covers approximately 7,402 square kilometers. The land mass is seven times that of Hong Kong and about half of Northern Ireland.

Kumamoto prefectural college of technology lies in the eastern peripheral area around the City of Kumamoto. It is very close to Kumamoto-Aso airport and it takes 10 minutes from airport by taxis.
Its convenient location also allows easy access to the downtown of Kumamoto city.
On a clear day, KPCT commands a fine view of Aso mountains from the campus. In the geographical sense, Kumamoto has a rich beautiful landscapes.
Seventy percent of the land is covered by forests. Kumamoto has two national parks, one is the Aso Kuju National Park that includes the magnificent Aso volcano which boasts the best caldera in the world, and Unzen Amakusa National Park, the other, that comprise 120 islands, both large and small.
