The Semicon Techno Park

The Semicon Techno Park is the hub of semiconductor manufacturing in Japan. There is considerable investment in the area by some of the largest semiconductor manufacturers around the world. Mitsubishi Electric, NEC, Renesas Technology, Sony, Tokyo Electron, Ebara, and other leading Japanese companies have set up operations in Kumamoto Prefecture.
Kumamoto is located in the center of the Silicon Island for its notable concentration of IT companies. Kyushu island is responsible for about 25% of the nation's IC production. 25% of that, or about 6% nationally, is shared by Kumamoto Prefecture. It is ninety-five minutes away from Tokyo by airplane (1,072km), but only eighty-five minutes from Seoul in Korea (631km). As the fifteenth largest prefecture in Japan, it covers approximately 7,402 square kilometers. The land mass is seven times that of Hong Kong or about half of Northern Ireland.
